गुज़रे कल

By
जो खो गए उस के ग़म में
जो रह गए उसे भूली मैं;

एक दर्दभरी याद को सीने लगाकर
हँसी को मिटादी अपने होंटों पर ।

आँखों से जो आँसू टपक पड़ी
तो खुशियों को भी मैंने मोड़ी

गुज़रे हुए कल की यादें हैं दर्द भरी
उस में उलझी, आज को जीना भूल गयी!!!

one of my friends who is not fluent  in Hindi wanted me to translate the poem in Malayalam... though a word by word translation is not possible, I've tried to capture the gist of it...

കഴിഞ്ഞ കാലം... 

നഷ്ടപ്പെട്ടതിന്റെ  ദു:ഖവും പേറി ഞാനെ-
ന്നരികിലുള്ളതിനെ മറന്നു പോയ്‌ ...

ശോകത്തിന്നലകള്‍ ഹൃദയത്തിലേറ്റി,
യെന്‍ ചുണ്ടില്‍ നിന്നും പുഞ്ചിരി മായ്ച്ചു...

കണ്ണുനീര്‍ത്തുള്ളികള്‍ പൊഴിഞ്ഞു വീഴവെ
ഞാനാനന്ദത്തിന്നു നേരെ മുഖം തിരിച്ചു...

കഴിഞ്ഞകാലത്തിന്‍ വ്യഥകളിലുഴറി-
യിന്നില്‍ ജീവിക്കാന്‍ ഞാന്‍ മറന്നേ പോയ്‌!!!

ദൈവമേ, സോമന്‍ സാറ് ഹിന്ദി പഠിപ്പിച്ചിരുന്നപ്പോള്‍ ശ്രദ്ധിച്ച് പഠിച്ചിരുന്നെങ്കില്‍ ഇങ്ങനെ മിഴുങ്ങസ്യാ’ന്ന് ഇരിക്കണമായിരുന്നോ? നിഷാ, ഇംഗ്ലീഷ് / മലയാളം പോസ്റ്റുകള്‍ വരുമ്പോ മാത്രം വായിക്കാം കേട്ടോ. അല്ലെങ്കില്‍ ട്രാന്‍സലേറ്റ് ചെയ്ത് തരൂ.

You are absolutely right,sometimes we tend to be hung up on the past and forget to live today and it so begins a vicious cycle. Wilfully breaking free is the only option.

Yes, many times we tend to live in past, holding on to it and then completely miss to live in present... This vicious cycle (as you rightfully said) has to be broken willingly .. the sooner the better!!!

Yes, one has to move on... but sometimes we don't realize that we have been clinging on to the past and forget to live in the present..

My mother was a Hindi Teacher in Anthikad High School where I did my schooling. I was helping her paper valuation of SSLC answer sheets even when I was in my 7th standard onwards. What to say, I had to do "Paul Vaulting" for my PDC Hindi exam (and the late CH Mohammed Koya's grace mark to clear the hurdle!). Due to fear of failure, not because of my Patriotism, I cleared all the formalities to join Indian Army and before the joining date, PDC Result came and my life continued as a "civilian”...

So I'm also in the same Boat as Ajith...

But I feel that "Kazinja Kaalam" is "oru panathookkam munnil" than “Guzre Kal". Special thanks to Ajith also…

മാതൃഭാഷയുടെ മാധുര്യം ഒന്ന് വേറെ തന്നെയല്ലേ ? അതിനാലാവാം 'കഴിഞ്ഞ കാലം' 'ഒരു പണത്തൂക്കം മുന്നില്‍ ' എന്ന് തോന്നിയത്.

Fear of failure! That was happened when I was so young... I rarely felt it, especially after writing the exams; precisely the previous day of the results... and the decision to join Army I have taken that time was not to avoid the humiliation to my mother but to escape myself...

Of course, for me Malayalam is the ONLY language in which I can Think, I can Write and I can Speak... But my opinion is not because of this truth, when you did translation your natural "basha" and "sahityam" came out without "accessories"... So the real feel we were experiencing when we go through the poem, even in between the lines also…

In any language, writing in the natural way ("thanath") definitely comes out "oru panathookkam munnil"... I do repeat again, these few lines of “kazhinja kaalam” are really touching our hearts…

First and foremost, this is not about how to write a blog. I am of the opinion that one should write according to one's own style and language, should not imitate anyone else. Each writer has a unique style and his /her aim should be to continuously nurture it.  The other day I happened to come across a comment on Facebook. A blogger had written that nobody reads him and so he has lost interest in writing. The first question that came to my mind was: 'why should I read you?’. I checked the blog of that person and found nothing much interesting (as far as I am concerned) in the few posts that I read. I would probably not return to that blog again because of the feeling that there is nothing in it for me.  I had, in fact, written such a response to that person - but then deleted it; I did not want to hurt his feelings. Century!!!

Well, the title was reserved for a blog to be written when Tendulkar hit his hundredth ton... Seems that we will have to wait a little more for that. In the mean while, I reached this personal milestone of 100th entry in my Blog! Even though its not a historical or hyped event, but just a humble achievement of a rather unknown and uninspiring blogger, personally, it is a great achievement for me. What started as a time-pass has now become a passion.  So, allow me to celebrate this small event. It is only proper that I express my gratitude to some important people who have helped me to reach this far.... I started out with no idea of what blogging is or how it is done.
